Ontario is one of the largest car producers in North America. After years of job losses and plant closures, the Canadian province is now betting on electric cars.

Windsor, just across the river from Detroit, has benefited from its proximity to the United States and the three major carmakers headquartered there. Investment by Stellantis and LGES is part of a larger trend that has seen more than CA$17 billion in announced investment in Ontario's automotive sector since the beginning of 2021.

Electric vehicles lose a lot of mileage in cold weather. Hybrids make more sense for places like Ontario with often frigid temps and long distances between services. It will be interesting to see if consumers there jump on to this move.
