“As the telecommunications regulator, we take seriously attempts to increase Canadians’ bills through ancillary fees. We will continue to use all available tools to address this type of behaviour and will keep Canadians apprised of developments.”
Roaming fees are part of “a concerning trend to charge more for existing services broadly at a time when inflationary pressures are making it difficult for Canadians to pay their bills,” Champagne’s letter reads. Champagne acknowledged the regulator’s wireless code does not prevent carriers from increasing international roaming fees.
“Increases to these types of ancillary fees add to the cost of a consumer’s bill beyond the main sticker price,” he said in his letter. “Your decision becomes ‘do I want to go through the hassle of trying to find an alternative provider that’s not raising its rates for roaming, or is it just too much of a hassle for me?”‘ he said.
Champagne praised both steps in his letter, saying they highlight “the importance of the CRTC’s role in promoting competition and protecting consumers.”

Payment restriction in EU anti-money laundering bill irks crypto industryThe digital asset industry mobilized after the European Parliament added an article into the EU's anti-money laundering regulation draft introducing restrictions on commercial crypto payments. InbarPreiss Such an approach is not technologically neutral, it favors centralized service providers. Merchants can accept more than €5,000 in cash. The threshold on permitted crypto payments is much lower, at €1,000. Seems as a bias targeting on decentralized finance protocols. DomSchiener InbarPreiss Where can I view the shimmer roadmap? InbarPreiss That's bull**it, with the excuse of anti-money laundering they are targeting an emergent industry. That's the last example of weaponizing burocracy in orwellian states.

Modder lands industry job after co-creating excellent unofficial Resident Evil 4 HD remasterJust in time for Capcom’s full remake. The way it should happen. Unlike Nintendo. I remember a modder made a remastered Mario 64 and it looked better than the one Nintendo released. They made him take it down...should have hired him. Noice looking forward to it!
