Google announces a series of cost-cutting measures across the company as it slashes staff perks

It made this announcement Friday in a memo to staff.Google has announced a series of cost-cutting measures as the company continues to tighten its belt and prioritize its work in artificial intelligence.

The memo, obtained by Insider, was signed by a handful of group leaders, including Ruth Porat, the company's chief financial officer, and Prabhakar Raghavan, Google's search lead. Citing a shift to hybrid work, leaders said cafés, microkitchens, and other facilities would be"tailored to better match how and when they are being used." Some cafés will be closed on days when fewer employees use them, the memo said. Fitness classes and shuttle schedules will also be adjusted based on how they're being used.

The note added that Google continued to hire at a reduced pace, while redeploying teams to higher-priority work., which it said was the result of overhiring and a"different economic reality."This year, one of our important company OKRs is to deliver durable savings through improved velocity and efficiency.
