ESKOM LIVE | Load shedding suspended until 17:00 due to reduced demand | News24_Business

Eskom is suspending load shedding until 17:00 on Saturday due to reduced demand, it announced on Saturday morning.Stage 4 load shedding kicks in until Friday

Ramokgopa: The minister of electricity is still seized with the responsibility of dealing with load shedding Ramokgopa: Part of the interventions cabinet and president considered with the state of disaster to enhance existing instruments. It is already question-and-answer time.

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Thembi Nkadimeng said in a gazette published just before noon on Wednesday that the state of disaster was terminated. Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from Friday afternoon until 05:00 on Saturday, Eskom said in a statement. This comes as breakdowns have increased to 15 388MW of generating capacity, while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance increased to 7 169MW.

* Correction: This story has been updated in line with a second statement issued by Eskom, which noted that Stage 4 load shedding had been implemented from shortly after 13:00 on Friday, not 16:00 as previously communicated by the utility. Stage 3 load shedding was implemented at 18:11 on Wednesday due to a"higher than anticipated demand experienced" in the evening.

Breakdowns have reduced to 15 089MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance has increased to 7 147MW, Eskom said in a statement. Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 on Saturday until 05:00 on Sunday, when load shedding will be suspended.

According to Eskom, this is due to a slight improvement in available generation capacity and lower-than-anticipated demand.Eskom has announced that load shedding will be suspended at 11:00 on Monday, and will continue again at Stage 2 from 16:00 on Tuesday. During the last 24 hours a generating unit at Duvha power station was taken offline for repairs, it said, while the delays in returning units to service at Matla, Tutuka and Medupi power stations continue.Load shedding will continue to be implemented at Stage 1 until further notice, Eskom said in a message on Saturday.

Load shedding will then again be suspended from 05:00 on Tuesday until 16:00; thereafter, Stage 2 will be implemented until further notice.Due to further improvements in the generation capacity over the past 24 hours, Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 12:00 midday on Friday until further notice.

Over the past 48 hours, the repairs to the damaged towers from Cahora Bassa in Mozambique were completed and restored to full capacity, Eskom said in a statement on Ttuesday. This will last until 16:00 on Monday, where it will jump to Stage 5 until 05:00 on Tuesday. The cuts will alternate between the two stages at the same times every day until further notice.

Breakdowns have increased to 17 008MW of generating capacity while 4 600MW of capacity is out for planned maintenance.Load shedding will be reduced from Stage 4 to Stage 3 over the weekend with Stage 1 forecasted for Sunday morning, Eskom said.Thereafter, Stage 3 will follow from Saturday 05:00 until 05:00 on Sunday.Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Duvha, Kriel and Matla power stations was successfully returned to service.

Repairs to the damaged towers at the Cahora Bassa project in Mozambique are continuing and will only be completed by next week.
