The National Union of Mineworkers wants the same raise for all workers along with other increases in allowances for housing and other benefits. | News24_Business

Labour settled on a one-year contract with Eskom in 2022 following violent protests that intimidated some workers from reporting for duty and increased power shortages that contributed to an all-time record. Eskom employees aren’t allowed to strike legally, because the provision of electricity is considered an essential service.

Solidarity, another labour union at the utility, has also submitted its demand for a pay increase of 3 percentage points above the average inflation rate. South Africa’s average inflation rate was 6.9% last year and the central bank projects that will slow to 6% for 2023.In times of uncertainty you need journalism you can trust. _Business That's how it works here. Pay people for not working. Eskom, government..... change the narrative, produce electricity, get your increase

_Business This is how disgusting SA citizens has become. Their black leaders live above the law and moral virtue and exploits money through theft. The same way the population has become...

_Business They weren’t even meeting our demands the last six months what difference is it going to make? These people are playing with us. And we are letting them.

_Business Their salaries should be halved till we have constant electricity

_Business They are feeling happy.

_Business No

_Business Of course they do.. like every other union they need to have relevance.. they only way the know how to get this is through wage ransoms.. Bugger the rest of us who has to fit the bill.. This place is joke

_Business Cut the labour force by 30%, give the remaining 15% and we might be even steven. Why have too many people doing very little or nothing at all?

_Business Uhmmm NO fok nee!! -5% monthly till loadashetting ends then 8% max!!

_Business Thank you guys let's fill Twitter with this. Eskom is a cash cow for the greedy corrupt people of SA. Govt has already injected billions into eskom and still they can't keep the light son.

_Business Their increment is based on what, when they fail to do their job which is provision of electricity

_Business A wage hike? This must be a joke. This right here is sabotage.

_Business hulle kan mos gaan doppies blaas.

_Business They deserve the 15% increase hike, these guys are used to sabotage Eskom so the big fat cats can loot🤷‍♂️

_Business Holding the grid to ransom again 😡 Eskom is rotten from top to bottom. Let it fail and allow the private sector to generate and sell power.

_Business Will not be surprised if the current higher stages of loadshedding are associated with wage negotiations; It was used before in previous ESKOM salary negotiations.

_Business eskomsalaryshedding governmentsalaryshedding 40000 employee's average salary R65k R2600000000 Salary Bill a month Stage 6 loadshedding 45% no power so, let's take 50% R1300000000 of the salary bill pump it back into ESKOM BANG no more problems, fix before increase.

_Business Tell them to walk. What’s the worse that can happen? They’ll switch our electricity off for 9hrs a day? Tsek! Get rid of half the staff compliment and no one will notice.

_Business Since we dont have electricity for 40% of the day doesnt it make sense to cut their salary with 40%

_Business Get rid of the deadweight, employ competent staff based on merit and the 15% increase won't be an issue. Expecting an increase for poor or no service delivery is the new norm in SA.

_Business They are crazy. They are not doing anything to fix the issue of eskom. They deserve 2.5%

_Business 15%. Tell me of one insolvent company that gives a 15% increase, fuck even profitable ones

_Business The problems at Eskom where multiplied by the strikes and sabotage last year… this is how the mafia unions operate- They will become unemployable once Eskom is privatised (unstoppable event)

_Business 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

_Business This isn't a negotiating gimmick, just plain madness...

_Business Eskom employees need to get off the crack pipe!! There is not an organization in the world that offers 15% increases - Not to mention that they are probably 50% over staffed.

_Business Here's the real reason for sudden stage 6 breakdowns again

_Business No electricity, no wage increase. Thousands of businesses closed their doors due to loadsshedding and thousands of workers lost their jobs because of it. And these plonkers want a 15% wage increase.

_Business drop al die groot base se salaris met 50% hy sy dit ni wil aanvaar ni bedank dan.stel nuwe eerlike opregte mense aan

_Business Why? What for? This is 😠 😠 😠 😠

_Business All these unions are ANC affiliate let them carry on destroy South Africa they are on the right track

_Business What is happening in South Africa? eat or be eaten

_Business Eskom needs wage shedding

_Business Eskom se moer ook. Daars nie donnerse krag nie maar hulle soek fokken geld.

_Business 🤦🤦🤦

_Business Get rid of the deadwood and give a good raise to those who are left to actually want to work.

_Business Do it, after all we just got a new minister we pay millions to, on top of a 18% price hike. All so we can be told about Stage 10 load shedding. Give them the increase, at this point it must all be accelerated until it starts destroying the fortunes of the 'Captains of Industry'

_Business No one at Eskom_SA deserves an increase and/or bonus at this load-shedding era, I repeat no one!

_Business There was a wages strike recently, when they said load shedding is caused by people not at work.

_Business Can’t keep the lights on but want an increase double inflation. Go figure. Small wonder we are a basket case.

_Business To those who do their jobs well maybe

_Business To be expected from criminal leadership...

_Business Hell no, getting increases for shoddy work. Don't think so buckos

_Business They can go get stuffed....

_Business 15% for a utility that is under performing, I don't think 80% of South Africans even got 5% if they got anything at all. Plus all their benefits wow its nice working for eskom.

_Business They must all just disappear,it will be an improvement at eskom!!

_Business Sebete.....

_Business This union employee at eskom must be fired because they are selfish non patriotic kicking the dog while is down DenzilTaylor they must be shamed

_Business I dont think we will notice it if they strike...so ignore them

_Business As long as loadshedding is still happening their salaries should be cut by 90% because they arent doing their jobs. They have no foot to stand on

_Business Hehehe. No service delivery that moment. Mayivalwe icountry

_Business Sisekakene what happened last with their wage demand they where given what they want

_Business They are also exposed to loadshedding while working around the clock. Are you implying they are not exposed to loadshedding, interest rate hikes, fuel price increases etc.

_Business Now stage 6 is making more sense coalmafia also.

_Business Cut labour force by 50%.... Due to decrease of electricity

_Business The cost of living is high.

_Business I vote they get FOKOL.

_Business They can go and eat a bag of dicks.. The price of electricity is already going up and they are most probably the highest paid employees in the country who is failing at their jobs

_Business 🤡

_Business There's another electricity price hike coming.

_Business NO.

_Business Give them what they want. If management is still getting exorbitant salaries then why not ground workers

_Business Just look at the countries without unions vs the countries with unions....the ones without get the job done and things work...the ones without will always hold you ransom to ridiculous demands...get rid of the unions at parastatals and you will see positive change

_Business Let the new Minister of Electricity deal with them

_Business That union can loop kak ! We can do the following . 15% when loadshedding stops

_Business Yeah , even on Titanic, music band was playing while vessels was sinking. Detached from reality Eskom Union lives in another Universe. If you not happy with salary, resign. They are lucky to get anything. 🤡

_Business Disgraceful…Eskom_SA you deserve a -15% decrease , not a cent more

_Business I hope the Labour Unions taught the members the discipline and skill to save for a rainy day….

_Business 😂 these people are ridiculous, and electricity is going up this month...yiirrrrr, everyone wants, we must just pay...

_Business HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

_Business Its time to cut Eskom.

_Business It's like unbelievable but it's true Whatsap Baba Adam's +27812619602 for an appointment to come by a traditional chicken which lays 10,000coins every day. For 5000rands only a traditional chicken.

_Business That's what Unions are for in SA, demand irrespective of conditions and affordability! Useless fat cats!

_Business Tell the 'biggest labour union at Eskom' to go and f... itself.

_Business This utility is a useless company ever, it is controlled by politicians, unions, suppliers, contractors and coal transporters. Ayivalwe once and for all

_Business Fuck of

_Business ROFL -

_Business They must go on strike if they are not given the raise.

_Business Let me thul...

_Business 🤣🤭

_Business Last time Gordhan interfered and overrode de Ruyter and insisted they be given a high wage increase (under the threat of violence and sabotage) …too late

_Business Kuningi okwasemzansi.

_Business That's not a surprise from an underperforming company staff members

_Business Increase for what? Cable theft, diesel theft, sabotage & all the freakin Loadshedding...

_Business The biggest union had better get used to the idea that, with more and more people resorting to alternative sources of electricity, the demand for Eskom generated electricity will never return to what it was. Power stations will have to be closed and staff retrenched. Caused by..?

_Business Hay yi film

_Business

_Business As there not doing there and providing electricity to all households in SA how can they ask for a wage increase, sack them immediately & get someone in that can do there jobs correctly simple

_Business Absurd...eskom employees already getting paid way tooo much

_Business Voetsek.

_Business They are unproductive. Man get rid of the rubbish. They are overpaid

_Business That's a very GOOD thing..... Ppl were taking R1 Billion monthly from Eskom.... They Must take that money and give it to them...

_Business Close it down… just close it.

_Business Let them cut the power it's fine.

_Business Only 15% this time? Why not go for 30 ! Create more unemployment

_Business If they can siphon a Billion a month, why not 15% for hardworkers? 😂🤣

_Business Let us know when the bosses pay themselves underserved huge bonuses... Mxm

_Business Get rid of these Unions!!!! That is when investment and economy will grow. Known FACT

_Business Loadshedding is a hoax and a 1st class propaganda. Eskom_SA must pay those salary increases bcuz those employees have no connections with their corruption they're doing with Cyril Ramaphosa, Johan Rupert, Pravin Gordon , etc. Eskom_SA pay up

_Business another Post Office disaster is loading....... just watch........

_Business You report from the lack of knowledge, increase has nothing to with Loadsheding... It is got nothing to do with the performance of employees it has everything to with decision makers not workers report right... You are getting above 60k a month to 200k you don't want competition

_Business Give us the names of these people and we will go and ask them

_Business They want to completely bankrupt, totally destroy Eskom the same way Numsa destroyed what was left of SAA after the Dudu Myeni/State Capture looting that took place there.

_Business Let the grid drop. Fire them all and true South Africans of all colour will rebuild.

_Business

_Business Well done union 👏 👍 🙌 👌 whn is strike starting I can't wait

_Business I thought the state of disaster would also be used to freeze eskom wages until problems are resolved. Instead, it was used to create a ministerial post that still stands after the state of disaster was lifted. I further thought it was going to be used to build more coal units.

_Business Decrease the labour force by 30% and then give the 15% raise to those who left. Easy peasy

_Business fire them all

_Business It makes sense why we are on stage 6. SABOTAGE!

_Business Pay for performance would be an interesting option. If a power plant runs to at least 75% capacity then they can qualify to ask for an increase. For every % it operates over that, they can get a 1% increase. If it drops below 75%, all increases are withdrawn....

_Business Anyone who keeps voting for these ANC whackjobs has no grounds to ever complain again.

_Business Bloated and overpaid workforce

_Business Didnt they get an increase like a few months ago?

_Business So basically we are heading to stage 8. Until deal is done.

_Business Get rid of 40% of the workforce and then give a 15% increase.

_Business No increase as long as there is loadshedding No loadshedding then we can talk about an increase again! End of story! ⚡ ⚡ ⚡ 🌟 🌟 🌟 ANC Government Eskom

_Business Workers has to be paid in order for them to work properly. Failure to do so they will continue stealing and selling electricity.

_Business How about doing your jobs and doing them properly then come ask for raises...and who do you think is going to pay it... the public who are already being fleeced by paying for electricity that we don't get !!!! Provide a service, and a damn good one at that then negotiate!!

_Business Wow, cut the staff to the ratio it should be, increase should be based on performance. Which is nothing at the moment. What a bunch of arrogant fools

_Business Give it to them.....maybe then they will stop looting and stop stripping the power stations. Not to mention the pilons! Hee ha

_Business Report the news and stop sensationalizing nja! 'even' ke ya eng?

_Business Is that the workers fault? It really seems like its the corrupt contractors and bad strategic decisions that created loadshedding

_Business Is this why we are on stage 6?

_Business And the Afrikaner Forum Solidatiet demands 3%, it tells youright there.

_Business Are the ghost employees also getting increases?

_Business The audacity.....
