AMTE Power tells Sky News it is now very difficult to justify keeping production in the UK given the incentives being offered to companies to make green technology in the US.

One of Britain's only battery producers is considering shifting manufacturing from the UK to the US to benefit from American subsidies, Sky News can reveal.

AMTE, whose history includes having made some of the world's very first lithium ion batteries for military customers in the 1990s, has plans for three new special types of cells: one for high-performance vehicles, one for energy storage and one very long-lasting battery. "In the Inflation Reduction Act, the typical support for the running costs of a gigafactory would be between 30 and 50% of the operating costs," he said."The answer is perfectly clear [about] where the most economic place for the gigafactory will be.Several large and small companies, including car giant Volkswagen, have announced plans to open new battery production in the US.

Very risky thinking that a pre presidential election USA is a safe location to set up business. Donald Trump has been handed the republican nomination and is at 5/2 to win the presidency!

Brexit benefits all round, again.

And you can't blame them This country destroys business NOT support it.

This man and crew are crashing our economy

Not a good idea to depend so much on US, particularly while mentioning ‘only producers’

Why aren’t you all asking him about the lie he told about continuing the electricity support for the public? According to eonenergyuk customer service person the government had not given permission for them to continue as promised.

Biden won’t allow that…🤣🤣🤣

This just shows who’s actually running the show in the UK and in Europe, well done on raising taxes

More of this will come if they don’t bring down taxes for companies and actually make the UK a preferred choice for small, medium and large businesses to invest in, any other ideas will just be ignored, businesses want to make a profit not pay it to be mismanaged by government

Vote Tory they Run everything into the Ground

UK at its best! Businesses leaving, broken NHS, energy crisis, food crisis, farming crisis, ferry crisis, inflation crisis, but Rishi’s doing a great job 👏 👏

Joe Bidens fault

He can be wary but unless he backs it with subsidies /tax breaks we’ll lose it.

BexBitchley1 Our manufacturing sector is being destroyed before our eyes.

And you’ve still not mentioned the ‘B’ word! BrexitLies

Subsidies work.

The UK is a vassal to the US, not surprised to see them happy to lose the only battery-making company to the US. Terrible.

Any business that needs subsidies to survive has bigger problems. The state should not be giving taxpayers money to private enterprises.

🙄

In a word ‘Brexit!!’ 😡

Never mind subsidies - British energy prices are enough to send any manufacturer overseas. I'm surprised there are any left Blame NetZero

The U.K. is fucked. Just admit it.

And the UK government does..... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

They lost billions on migrant housing , PPE contracts , Ukraine aid no money left for business or economy

All going well this economy ,Jeremy Hunt is genius

If this goes, what does the uk actually produce? Apart from sausage rolls

We’re going to make Brexit work once we’ve totally decimated anything that was previously good - prior to the dirty stinking Tory rats taking charge. That’s basically it unless the good people of the Uk get rid of the snakes

We can't sort out our own supply of anything in this country. Pathetic

But but Brexit, it's the golden days for the UK. We were promised everything would be amazing after Brexit

Who’d have thought raising taxes would have done that 🤔

They could just move to Northern Ireland and take advantage of our special situation. The Americans love us😂😂😂

Poor Tory - how much they try and say things are all going to plan. Reality is making them look like incompetent liars.

EU subsidies before ?

Because, outside of the EU, we can’t compete. Ffs. Grow up. We are now a tiny country. We don’t compete with the US for investment.
