Customers are currently unable to buy genuine Wilko products online

Administrators of the retail giant Wilko have issued a warning about fake websites being set up in the company's name as uncertainty on its future continues. The Nottinghamshire-based firm recently announced that it was going into administration, putting thousands of jobs at risk.

Headquartered in Worksop, the news was described as "dreadful" for Nottinghamshire and it was reported that administrators PwC had set last Wednesday as the deadline for potential buyers to come forward. It is understood that an announcement on the future of the company could be made from the end of this week.

But as the administration process continues, a warning has now been issued about fake Wilko websites springing up. It was reported that at least 10 such sites have appeared online in recent days.A spokesperson for PwC said on the matter: "We have been made aware of a number of fake Wilko websites which are offering Wilko products at heavily discounted prices. These websites are not genuine and have been set up to scam users, the only legitimate Wilko website is www.wilko.com.

"We would like to remind our customers that all Wilko sales are now in-store and you are unable to purchase items online." In terms of the administration process, PwC previously said: "We will continue to engage with parties who may be interested in acquiring all or part of [Wilko]. Stores will trade as normal and staff will continue to be paid while the company is in administration.
