Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index HSI, -1.40% weakened 1.4% to 17,956.38, while the Nikkei 225 Index NIK, -2.05% of Japanese companies dropped 2.1% to 31,624.28.

Shares of semiconductors firms Tokyo Electron 8035, -5.93% SCREEN Holdings 7735, -3.44% weakened 5.9% and 3.4%, respectively. Of the the Hang Seng Index constituents, gas utilities company ENN Energy Holdings 2688, -16.20% saw the largest decrease in Hong Kong, as shares tumbled 16.2% on Friday.
