Department of Finance had signalled that precast would be subject to 5 per cent levy but has completed a U-turn after concerns it would advantage Northern Irish firms

The government has moved to exempt some products from the new concrete levy after significant backlash from industry groups, who warned it would damage Ireland’s competitiveness.

Michael McGrath, the minister for finance, this morning announced plans to introduce a legislative amendment that will mean precast – a form of concrete that is prepared and cast off-site and then transported to a construction site – is excluded from the controversial 5 per cent levy.
