Executive says UK ministers urged leading firms to help secure the prime minister's EU divorce plan

Business minister Greg Clark, junior trade minister George Hollingbery and Jim Harra, a senior official in the UK tax office, asked business leaders on the call to try to persuade the Northern Irish Democratic Unionist Party and other MPs to swing behind May’s position, the executive said. Earlier on Wednesday, the government said it would remove tariffs on many goods coming into Britain in the event of a no-deal Brexit, exposing domestic producers to more competition. But British exporters would face new trade barriers in the EU and beyond.
