Businesses in a south Everett commercial district hope a new sheriff's substation will help reduce the crime they have been complaining about for years.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office is hosting an open house on Tuesday at its substation near the intersection of 128th St SW and 4th Ave W in south Everett. Businesses in a south Everett commercial district hope that a sheriff’s substation will help reduce the crime they've been complaining about for years.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office has established a new substation in Mariner Square, a shopping center at the corner of 4th Ave W and 128th St SW. It's meant to support increased deputy presence in the south Everett area. There will also be room for a unit with the county’s Office of Neighborhoods.

Business owners operating in Mariner Square and the surrounding area have been asking for additional help to address the property crime and street disorder. Sheriff Adam Fortney plans to be at an open house held at the substation at 1 p.m. Tuesday to meet with members of the public. In addition to providing another base for deputies to operate out of, the substation will provide room and resources for social workers who work with sheriff’s deputies as part of the Office of Neighborhoods.
