Old Market Square News

It has a little something for everyone and is a must-visit

As I stroll through Nottingham's Old Market Square, I'm greeted by the vibrant colours of the award-winning International Market, back in town from April 3 until Sunday, April 7. The annual market opens its gates from 10am until 7pm, Wednesday through to Saturday, and from 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

The aromas wafting from the stalls were simply irresistible, drawing me in with their tempting array of offerings. From the German salami mix priced between £3.50 and £15, to a Mexican stall's mouth-watering assortment of nachos, burritos, fajitas, quesadillas, and rice boxes ranging from £8 to £12, there was something to satisfy every craving.

But my taste buds truly danced with joy at the "Chock Shop Brownies" stall, where I sampled their homemade warm brownie batches priced from £3 for individual servings to £15 for a box. Each bite was a heavenly experience, leaving me craving more. But the sweet-treat haven didn't end there – Aunt Annie's Fudge stall offered a wide variety of fudges starting from £1.50 to £5, each one more decadent than the last. And for cheesecake enthusiasts, the 'New Work Cheesecake' stall, a homegrown brand, catered to every craving with classics to modern varieties ranging from £3.90 to £10. Each dessert was a delightful journey for the taste buds, leaving me craving more with every bite.

The market also featured an array of handcrafted and small business-owned alcohol shops, including 'O'Donnel Moonshine' offering spirits priced between £22 and £37 for 700ml, and ‘Norcotts Cider’, operated by a husband-and-wife team, with prices ranging from £12 to £25. These unique offerings added to the market's charm and appeal.

Bolton Market's Unapproved Façade to Receive Colourful SignsA new façade at Bolton Market, built without planning permission, is set to have colourful signs added after being described as ‘austere and forbidding’ and ‘harmful’ to the area. Bolton’s planning committee will consider a retrospective planning application from the council next week on elements of the redeveloped market. Previously approved and completed work at the market included a new food hall extension, a new outdoor market on Ashburner Street and alterations to entrances. After completion of the main project, other work was completed outside the scope of the approved planning permission.
