A global cyber outage is affecting major services such as flights, banking and company operations in countries such as Singapore, the US and Australia. The disruption, linked to Microsoft's Windows, appears to stem from an issue with cybersecurity software firm Cloudstrike.

A global cyber outage is affecting major services such as flights, banking and company operations in countries such as Singapore, the US and Australia.

Crowdstrike, in a technical advisory issued on Friday , acknowledged that it had received"widespread reports of BSODs on Windows hosts" and is"investigating cause". BSOD refers to the term"blue screen of death", commonly used to describe a system crash on Microsoft's Windows operating system.Market sources in the UK said the London Stock Exchange group platforms were out of service while crowdsourced website Downdetector showed outages at several banks and telecom companies in Australia.

In a pre-recorded message played on Sky News Australia as regular programming was disrupted, correspondent Tom Connell said the outage was not believed to be the result of a hack.
