Twelve learners from the Pretoria High School for Girls have been suspended over racism allegations. The suspensions come after a group of learners’ planned protest scheduled for Friday last week.
Alleged racially-motivated complaints about black learners expressed through a WhatsApp group comprising white learners triggered the protest. The Gauteng Education Department’s spokesperson Steve Mabona says an urgent meeting was held last Friday with the learners who were planning to protest. “The School Governing Body decided to suspend all the implicated learners, and their disciplinary hearing is scheduled to take place on 30 and 31 July 2024. The District has already launched its own investigation.” Any cookies that may not be particularly necessary for the website to function and is used specifically to collect user personal data via analytics, ads, other embedded contents are termed as non-necessary cookies.
