Through the provision of basic services like water and electricity, municipalities contribute towards creating an economic environment that is attractive to both investors and residents.
“In terms of electricity, yes you can look around and you will see we run on electricity so for us it’s a big challenge. What we went through during load shedding, we lost a lot of businesses, as you can see it’s quiet and it was busy but because we didn’t have backup systems, by the time we tried it was too late and it is expensive so electricity is a key for us because it only lasts for two hours.
“Without that conducive environment we won’t see any investors coming in to invest in local municipalities and that creates a problem as job creation is hindered in the municipalities so you are supposed to provide for waste, electricity and it must be of good standard in order to make sure that investors come and invest in the local economy.”
