21 municipal councillors were killed in KwaZulu-Natal between 2011 and 2023.

Local government association, SALGA wants urgent intervention from national security agencies to help stop the killing of municipal councillors.

According to SALGA, In Limpopo, former Collins Chabane Mayor Moses Maluleke and other councillors in the Waterberg and Sekhukhune districts, were also killed.Stofile was speaking during a two-day conference in Polokwane, Limpopo. “We have been discussing the killing of ward councillors. I have been on record on various media platforms about what will happen if we don’t deal the issue of the killing of councillors. The unfortunate thing is that this is going to spread and seemingly it was minimal in KZN, there was Morana Commission in which we made a submission about what we see is happening.
