The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) has filed a complaint against Epic Games, EA, Ubisoft, Roblox, and other gaming giants with the European Commission. The complaint alleges that these companies intentionally design games to be addictive, particularly targeting children, and exploit this addiction to encourage excessive spending on in-game currencies.

Fortnite-maker Epic Games, as well as EA, Ubisoft, Roblox, and others have had a complaint levelled against them to the European Commission.

The European Consumer Organisation in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and more levelled a complaint on Thursday with the European Commission accusing games like Fortnite and Roblox and their makers of not only allegedly growing addiction within children but abusing this addiction to make money from them.

The associations that filed the complaint said that the children who play these games could not understand the real-life cost of the digital items they buy, leading to overspending, especially in “premium in-game currencies” like V-Bucks in the case of Fortnite.
