The Employment and Labour Department has conducted raids at restaurants and the hospitality sector in Polokwane, Limpopo.

Inspectors, police as well as immigration officers from Home Affairs raided several establishments in Polokwane as part of a four-day program. Their first stop was the ever-busy Mall of the North where they inspected the adherence to the Basic Conditions of Employment. The department’s senior inspector Joel Themeli says they noted serious contraventions, “We came across a number of contraventions in terms of our legislative framework, you can name the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, the Unemployment Insurance Act, the Unemployment Contributions Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Those are the main contraventions we have come across since we started this morning.
