Play Market Management is ending its management of Rawtenstall Market, which is set to undergo a multi-million pound upgrade. The plans have sparked controversy, with some traders expressing concerns about a potential monopoly on alcohol sales and loss of income.

A management company is stepping back from running a Lancashire market which is set for a multi-million pound upgrade.

Mr Thomson stressed he also believed PLAY had done good work too and acknowledged that stall-holders views differed about the revamp. But there have been many objections to the market revamp planning application. PLAY strongly rejected any monopoly suggestions and defended their work with traders. PLAY said the central bar idea would help fund the market offerings and keep rents low.

"As two local boys, it has been an honour to help preserve the unique charm of Rawtenstall Market while also evolving it into the vibrant and thriving community hub it is today. One of our proudest achievements has been helping secure much needed £4.2million in funding, which gives us confidence that Rawtenstall Market and its facilities will continue to flourish for generations to come.

"Thank you for your support during this journey. It has been an unforgettable experience, and we are grateful to have been part of Rawtenstall Market’s story. Warm regards."
