The violent protests erupted in Maputo after the October 9 election results were announced.

Mozabmique A protester throws a stone during a nationwide strike called by Mozambique presidential candidate Venancio Mondlane in Maputo, Mozambique.

More than thirty Mozambican police officers have taken refuge with South African border security at the Lebombo Border Post.The protesters allegedly stormed the port of entry, setting alight buildings including security guard houses and vehicles belonging to officials.Border Management Authority spokesperson Mmemme Mogotsi says they are working closely with their counterparts to address the situation. There are threats of a shutdown tomorrow.
