A fire broke out in the roof space of a home in Market Drayton in the early hours of Christmas Eve, leading to a call to the fire brigade. Crews were at the scene until around 5am, and investigators are returning this morning to continue examining the cause, although it is thought to have been an electrical problem. A spokesperson for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: “On Tuesday, December 24, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a property fire in Market Drayton.
“Domestic property fire in roof space. Crews wore breathing apparatus whilst using two hose reel jets and two covering jets to extinguish the fire. “Crews emptied the loft and carried out salvage. A thermal imaging camera was also used to continue checking for hot spots.” Three fire engines were dispatched to the scene from Hodnet, Market Drayton and Wellington. An operations officer was also present.
