Zimbabwe outlaws usage of rand, US Dollar and Pula busrep

HARARE - International and regional currencies such as the rand, US Dollar, Botswana Pula and British Pound will no longer be acceptable in Zimbabwe as legal tender after the Finance Minister gazetted mandatory and sole usage of the Zimbabwe Dollar for all local transactions.

On Monday, the government issued a statutory instrument saying only the Zimbabwe dollar shall be the acceptable unit for transactions. The SI states that “references to the Zimbabwe dollar are coterminous with references to the following and to no other forms of legal tender or currency – the bond notes and coins, 2.) the electronic currency that is to say the RTGS$”.
