Companies’ refusal to release gas data ‘tells the story’: Horgan GlobeBC

B.C. Premier John Horgan says oil companies risk being accused of hiding something if they don’t come clean on gasoline profit margins without being forced to do so by the courts.

He declined to encourage them to do so, but said the exercise would raise tough questions for the oil companies. “Shell Canada is fully participating in this process to the best of our ability,” wrote Tara Lemay, a spokesperson for Shell Canada, in a statement to The Globe and Mail. “[The company] does not publicly disclose commercially sensitive and confidential financial information such as retail margins to competitors and other commercial counterparties. Likewise, Shell Canada does not have access to its competitors’ commercially sensitive and confidential financial information.

The gas-price issue has caused political trouble for the NDP, which campaigned in 2017 on making life more affordable for British Columbians, and has pursued a policy agenda built on affordability.

GlobeBC What’s even more telling about Horgan is, he’s fighting Alberta in court to prevent them from shipping oil to BC and he’s also fighting Alberta in court to prevent them from stopping oil shipment to BC. NDP and the Liberals are equally deranged. 🤪

GlobeBC I would suggest that if jjhorgan wants the companies to release gas data, government should open up the inquiry to include the role government policy and taxes has played in the price of gas at the pump. I’m no fan of gas companies, but that seems reasonable to me.

GlobeBC High prices result in a reduction of consumption. Isn’t that what he wants?
