The Oilers will retain some of Lucic’s lofty salary and send the Flames a conditional third-round draft pick. The Flames entered the summer with a wish list that included trying to get tougher and trying to rid themselves of the Neal deal. Both players are 31 and have four years left on contracts considered to be amongst the biggest busts in the NHL.
Earlier this month, the Flames had a deal for Nazem Kadri before it was nixed by the agitating centre.Although Lucic has fought very little the last couple years, few players dared to mess with Connor McDavid under Lucic’s watch. “There’s still a little bit of the law of the jungle here. It’s like running with a group of guys – the top guys just feel better. Nobody is going to mess around. Intimidation is still part of the game.”After all, he’ll likely reside on the left side of the fourth line where Garnet Hathaway scored 11 times this year while becoming a fan favourite for taking a pound of flesh from every opponent he could.
That’s why the Oilers had to sweeten the deal by retaining $750,000 of the annual Lucic hit, and offering up a conditional third-round draft pick.
EricFrancis I'd re check your calculations
EricFrancis Oh please , it was an aweful pick up .
EricFrancis I mean if I’ve learned anything from the Canucks you shouldn’t pay bottom 6 guys more than a million a season
EricFrancis More like...

EricFrancis Yeah, Eric is trying to act as hopeful as he can. What else is there to do? Good luck with Looch, I like him, but not the 6M contract nor his cement hands for passing and shooting.
EricFrancis Unless the flames have a time machine to go back 7-8 years Lucic is a terrible pick up.
EricFrancis Lucic is garbage ... hasn't been decent in years .. bad trade for flames
EricFrancis Not sure anyone stopped going after Mcdavid because of Lucic Mcdavid still got hit a lot. The article is pretty much full of all the same bs that thenoilers thought they would get. Let’s see this season how it goes.
EricFrancis Treliving Lol sold Neal at the lowest point in his career without giving him a chance at redemption in Year 2 of his contract. In return, he acquired a worse player with a similar cap hit who will eventually be much tougher to buy out due to the bonus-heavy structure of his deal.
EricFrancis This should be good for both teams.
EricFrancis I mean by taking on that contract I don’t think a ton of calculations were actually done
EricFrancis I agree. This deal will probably turn out worse for them on the score sheet, but at the end of the day, they need grit and someone who’s not afraid to get in the corners and win puck battles SaturdayThoughts
EricFrancis Eric Francis is a POS

EricFrancis Lucic is done. He is old enough to not want to put it on the line and I don't blame him.
