More companies are ignoring positive drug test results in a tight job market and as more states legalize marijuana. Some hiring firms have stopped using drug tests. Nevada recently became the first state to ban employers from using a positive cannabis test as reason to rescind a job offer.

The tight job market and the rise of legal marijuana use is narrowing the list of qualified, drug-free candidates.Nevada recently passed a law banning employers from refusing to hire based on a cannabis test.

Backers of legalization say that is unfair and the world of work needs to adapt to changing societal norms regarding cannabis. "We get off work after a tough day, we have a glass of wine, and then go to sleep. If the next morning we were drug-tested at work, it would not show a positive level of alcohol in our system because we have honed those testings so that we can focus on the actual impairment," said Lee Flores. The number of positives for drugs in the workforce has reached a 14-year high of 4.

Alaska is the only state among those that have had legalized marijuana where positivity rates for the drug are not above the national average, which is 2.3% of test results, according to an. Maine , Oregon and Nevada have the highest rates of marijuana positivity among these states.

Its not. its safer. you don't show up to work hungover.

Yes. Cannabis use is similar to drinking on the job..our workforce doesn’t need to constantly be high.

Because who owns them.. And them.. and them.. Studies has proved marijuana is way better for health than alcohol.. Let's start with natural depressant, shall we? Fucking joke..

dang. that's so narrow. incredible!

Most companies are out of touch!!!!

This is all bullshit

This is bound to change quickly. Im sure corporate management is more worried about their employees breaking the law than actually smoking weed. Some times it takes a little while for corporate culture to change but it comes...

Probably stay more focused and actually pay more attention to work...

This is just another example of how absurd this is. Pot is a natural, healthy substance used to treat a variety of medical conditions among its recreational uses. Booze is highly addictive, unhealthy, and causes accidents and deaths. But, go have some wine. It's fine.

Probably healthier less addictive and no where near the same mortality rate

Never been hungover from a blunt 🤷‍♂️

Actually it’s better, thank about it do you want a surgeon who has drank a fifth of vodka the night before brain surgery or smoked a bowl for a great appetite and a great night of sleep

It is.

Thats only becuz they write the umbrella policies as such and then companies use that to cut losses after events like an accident

Your better off living life, and staying off drugs and booze.Or using them in moderation.

Yes WTF

This data clearly shows use of weed reduced use of opiates by a large margins.

Companies have no right to say anything about someone’s private time away from work. They have become almost as invasive as government in our every day lives.

Cannabis must NEVER be allowed the freedom it is currently receiving in developed pockets of the global economy. It clearly hinders cognitive function, mental capacity and merely being alert!

Many companies are clueless and still basing policies on propaganda disseminated by the tobacco/alcohol/religious groups‼️

What we do outside of business hours is none of their concern.

Ya, that's canabis..
