Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has described the business sector as a ‘force multiplier’ in disaster response and emergency operations.

Belmonte, acting as the city’s “responsible official,” was on the ground with the Quezon City Incident Management Team which was called in by the Ayala management to take over the disaster operations following a simulated Intensity 7 earthquake that struck Metro Manila. A study made by the Japan International Cooperation Agency called the Metro Manila Earthquake Impact Reduction Study indicated the National Capital Region “is ripe for the Big One as scientists expect a major movement of the West Valley Fault may happen anytime’’.

She also emphasized the importance of people becoming self-reliant when it comes to disasters and emergencies.
