A Guatemalan mother whose toddler died weeks after being released from a Texas immigrant family detention center is suing the private prison company that operates the facility.

Yazmin Juárez, who testified in Congress earlier this month about her 21-month-old daughter's death, filed a lawsuit Wednesday seeking $40 million in damages from CoreCivic, which runs the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas. Migrant mom recalls daughter's death in emotional testimony Juarez and her daughter, Mariee, were detained for three weeks at the 2,400-bed facility last year. Mariee died six-and-a-half weeks after their release.

"What I can tell you is we have deep sympathy for the family and the tragic loss of their child six weeks after leaving the facility," Gilchrist said in a written statement Wednesday."We care about every person entrusted to us, especially vulnerable populations for which our partners rightfully have very high standards that we work hard to meet each day.

He was in your custody, plus you drug him 3000 miles thru the desert. Look at yourself first.

I really never believed that the U.S. would go back to this level of racism.

SUE

Boo hoo you brought it here go home and shut up criminal

Sue yiur country for putting yiu in that situation

It’s the fault of the country you came from Guatemala!!

No one is above the law regardless of what Trump says. He wont be there to protect you from murder. Many will pay!!

The United States government should sue her for the amount of money spent on caring for her and her child as well as the medical attention she received. She is culpable by breaking the law and entering this country illegally

Call Donald Trump and ask him about this situation. Such a bad action

Exactly, it wasn't the three thousand miles trec across the desert, it was the facility.

Maybe she shouldn’t have brought a toddler in such a dangerous journey.

This sounds a lot like the thief that sued the owner of the house he was breaking into because he cut himself on the glass from the window he broke gaining access to the house...

There's only one cure for all this, it is to stop the U. S. Control over other countries and to let them develop themselves.

When you break our laws bad things can happen.

Good. I hope she wins and the judge awards so much money that all the concentration camps are closed immediately. Oh, and all the people responsible for this nightmare are also required to pay so much as individuals that they will be in debt for the rest of their lives.

glennasonly 'Private prisons' paid $770 a day per person at these detention centers. Getting rich from taxpayers, providing poor care, often cruel, violent towards immigrants- many legal asylum seekers. This is who people should be angry with along with those responsible for their contracts.

No surprise there. That's all illegals want from the US, free money. And that's exactly what democrats offer them.

Do it!!!

I hope MichaelAvenatti reps her. He loves cases with lots of publicity and go no where fast

Dragging your kid across a country could not have been healthy.

Okay- first why was her baby in a detention center and she wasn’t there? why would she be suing when it was HER who put the baby in that position? Do you think if you enter a country illegal you will get a good treatment? I am Salvadorean- I know the drill..

Nice nail job.

If someone were to terminate these ICE scum and these private prison workers, their management, and their owners I would STAND in total respect for that person.

So the mother has no culpability here For every action there’s an equal and green reaction. She should’ve never crossed illegally to begin with

She should have come legally

Imagine that! Based on her legal understanding based on her demand, if she's granted a 'win', what that mean? It means that every death is subject to payment; only need to choose a wealthy place where the living was... TheJusticeDept USSupremeCourt WhiteHouse must STOP scam...

You killed your daughter. Who paid for the clothes, hair, and nails? Looks like AOC let her use her personal stylist 😂

Milf!!

She should get it all. Put that private prison out of business.

Good luck 😉

When you take someone into custody and limit their freedom, you are 100% responsible for them. The Geneva Conventions are quite clear on that for even prisoners of war. If it can be shown that the toddler's death is likely b/a/r/d due to detention conditions, they are liable.
