Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has signed a law that would require insurance companies to cover costs for kids needing EpiPen injections for cases of severe allergic reactions.

House Bill 3435 will take effect January 1, and would require companies offering health insurance policies in Illinois to pay for"medically necessary epinephrine injectors for persons 18 years of age or under."In a tweet on Tuesday, Pritzker hailed the bill, saying,"This legislation takes a big step forward in protecting our children and families." When administered during an anaphylactic attack, the pens deliver what can be a lifesaving dose of epinephrine, or adrenaline.

"We should be doing everything we can to expand access to affordable lifesaving drugs and medicines. No child with a serious allergy should be without an epinephrine injector because they cannot afford one."In 2009, a pair of EpiPen injectors went for $100, but by 2016, the price had jumped to $600. The ensuing outrage from parents and patients prompted federal lawmakers to look into the pricing policies of Mylan, which produces the EpiPen.

Good for Illinois!

As a retired veteran I must acknowledge, I'm so happy I don't have these 'insurance' problems...benefits...

M4A Bernie2020 Epi-pen injector dev. by military (taxpayer $$) - the medicine inside the epi-pen is worth about $4

'Socialism! Welfare! Nothing is free! Why should I pay for someone else's healthcare!' (Sarcasm)

Illinois doing a lot of good the past couple days, damn. Take notes, other states.

Adults?

That's awesome! Georgia needs to follow suit

for ANYONE!!!

NY should do the same. I have an 18 month old who has an allergy to eggs and dairy. I carry an epi pen in 2 purses, her diaper bag, and one is at the daycare facility. Life is precious...

Too bad that the pharmaceutical company started charging over 600 a pen. The greed is sickening

Finally!

Great news in a third world healthcare system... In Europe it just goes without saying it’s for all... not just got kids...

Congrats IL

Every state should follow.

'Best healthcare in the world' *has to be forced to cover emergency medicine and can't be bothered to make insulin affordable* We live in the DUMBEST country ever.

Jeeeez can my insurance cover it too?!? $300?!? I mean this is life or death ffs!!

We give billions in foreign aid to the world, to the corrupted politicians. And we don’t take care of our own. The formula doesn’t work.

That’s great but why just for kids
