Welsh water treatment plant operator fined £40,000 after chemical spillage kills more than 500 fish

The operator of a water treatment plant has been fined £40,000 after a chemical spillage killed more than 500 fish. The pollution happened after lime slurry which was being transferred spilled into a surface water drain which led to the River Lliw.An inspection of the river by Natural Resources Wales found dead fish including trout, lamprey, bullheads, as well as 200 freshwater shrimps, mayflies and caddis flies.

Welsh Water said:"As a company which takes its commitment to protecting the natural environment very seriously, we are of course extremely sorry for this event and its impact. "We fully investigated the cause and while it involved human error - the event happened while we were coping with increased customer demand for water during record hot temperatures - we identified that there were lessons to be learned."

Brexits fault Can you not spin that to something like brexit leads to mass fish death!!! 1/10 must try better!

Tell me why the water companies haven’t upgraded pipe work! Why are there shared meters where people can’t be individually billed? These are normal in rural areas where there still isn’t main sewage’s available! infrastructure 10DowningStreet BorisJohnson

Should have been at least £1,000 per fish plus plus . £40k is derisory.

Eh? Yet wankers that caused £30,000 worth of damage to a railway museum get fined £500.

How much did the shareholders get last year?
