We’re Chris Joyce, veteran Science Correspondent for NPR, and Dylan de Thomas, vice president of Industry Collaboration with the nonprofit Recycling Partnership. Ask us anything about the recycling industry and plastic recycling in particular.

China’s decision in 2017 to stop taking recycling from the U.S. has forced the industry here to take stock of its strengths and weaknesses. Today, recyclers and municipalities are deciding not to take many of the plastics in the recycling stream they once did. That’s because the U.S. does not have the capacity to recycle its own waste. The result, more plastic is going into landfills and incinerators. What will it take for stakeholders in the U.S.
