In a joint press statement, UMT’s Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar and her counterpart from UniSZA, Prof Datuk Dr Hassan Basri Awang Mat Dahan, said they hope the merger will boost UMT's core thrusts in marine, maritime, oceanography and fishery fields and UniSZA's Islamic studies and medicine at the global level.
"We are aware that the Full Merger Concept aims at maximising resources by realigning the universities' expertise and infrastructure,” they said. UMT and UniSZA will present proposals on how the merger will be implemented for further considerations by the MoE in a series of workshops beginning with the one organised by the Higher Education Department on Sept 26 and 27.
