IPOH: Representatives from two companies pleaded guilty in a Sessions Court here to negligence that resulted in the deaths of two workers in separate cases.

They were managing director Chia Weng Chuen, 50, from Telaga Setia Sdn Bhd, a solar panel sub-contractor, and administrative executive Cheong Kar Lai, 33, from Noble Distinction Sdn Bhd, which runs a quarry.They were charged under Section 15 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, which carries a fine of not more than RM50,000, a jail term of not more than two years, or both, under Section 19 of the Act.

The facts of case stated that Rabin died after falling from the roof with a height of 9.9m while fixing the mounting structure for the solar panel. During mitigation, Chia, said in the 30 years of the company's existence, this was a first time such and incident had occurred and asked for a lighter sentence.

According to the statement of facts, Loi, an excavator driver, died at the site when a boulder fell and crushed him at the foot of a hill.
