In Florida, the cannabis industry is betting on a surprising voter demographic to turn out for an effort to legalize pot next year — aging conservatives

The poll, conducted by Fabrizio, Lee & Associates on behalf of the Make It Legal Florida Committee, found that 67 percent of likely Florida voters support legalizing recreational pot use. More than half of them — 57 percent — are Trump fans.

Floridians have settled into an easy relationship with pot since voters approved the drug for medical use in 2016. Despite efforts since by counties and towns to push the industry onto back streets and out of the public eye, pot has become mainstream. Most of The Villages sits in Sumter County, where 70 percent of voters backed Trump in 2016 — and 62 percent voted to legalize medicinal weed.

If Trump did endorse legalization, he could boost his appeal with younger, more liberal voters without agitating his solid base of seniors in communities like The Villages, said John Hudak, a senior fellow in governance studies at the Brookings Institution, a Washington-based think tank. “It’s more complicated than just drilling down on one group or one number,” said Hansen, who also lobbies for Los Angeles-based MedMen, which markets itself as a high-end brand associated with celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow. “It’s the broader picture here, and the support coming from across the board.”

That’s just not right. All of us old hippies have been supporting the pot business for YEARS and now these punks want to suck up to the Trumpistas. I’m sticking with the black market if that’s true.

Wow this is newsworthy? 🖕🏽🖕🏽🖕🏽🤡🤡🤡🤣🤣

Nope

CalBrownBear They would be not totally correct. I'm sure not a supporter!

I'm sure they don't, but they probably need to. My guess is that they're alcoholics if anything at all. Also high on the Jesus.

I think meth and oxy are their preferred cocktail

No his supporters are on opioids of all kinds🤡👺👹

That explains Trump’s brain damage.

Yeah, he’s high on Sudafed and freaking adderall

GabeTheCentrist interesting

So applying cannabis to the Trumpian right could either a.) chill them the hell out or b.) just make the kind of incoherent word-salad they throw out to defend him (stuff like “Dems did the collusion not Trump he said no quid pro quo, the Economy”) even worse

If I were in the race I'd make this part of my platform & move that base!

realdonaldtrump

Need to be high to support a civil warrior.

Trump wont support it but

Maybe trump needs it for medicating his brain so he can get a tad bit smarter than being sober?

Not me, disgusting, will destroy America....

Which will be canceled out when they vote Trump 2020.

legalizeit

The Vote should be on a different day. Its only to get the Sanders, Biden , people to vote it's a big old carrot let's get that right

People over 60 have painful conditions many times that traditional medicine cannot relieve. They would benefit from pot to make their lives tolerable.

What amazes me is the fact I go in to the legal pot store and most of the ppl in there are over the age of 60 so they have the money

Trump is on something or he insane! No one lies like that!

Conservatives - Drug wars for thee, but not for me.

People on weed are the most dangerous people in our society ... we must decriminalize the marijuana immediately... harsher punishments is whT we need... 1 year for each marijuana they have
