Output fell in September capping a 15-month period of decline, an industry body says.

The trade body said that the latest car production figures, which compare output with the same month a year earlier, capped a 15-month period of decline for the sector.

The UK's automotive industry is closely integrated with European suppliers and markets. Many models rely on a stream of components imported from the EU. And eight out of ten cars built in the UK are exported.BMW's mini factory in Oxford was closed during April to prepare for a Brexit which didn't happen

Maybe if we get out the EU our car industry compete ..Maybe cut export tariffs on cars, tax breaks on car manufacturers.. maybe

The car industry is failing to adapt, just as many outlets refused to adapt to the changes in the market. Tesla has open sourced much of its tech, yet big auto fails to incorporate it. Far to vested in oil perhaps?

There to expensive! And now there trying to charge us more because the technology is changing.

Well done Brexit, sunlit uplands

Turbulent first nine months for automotive sector as UK car production reverses -3.8% in September

Surely this is good news for the environmentalists 🤫

vehicle production ww is down. other factors include what Governments might tax/discriminate in terms of the diesels they encouraged us to use

brexit

Any chance of some positive news for once?

Any drop in sales is down to higher living costs and less disposable income plus the cars are getting more expensive and the uncertainty of when brexit will happen thanks to our politicians dithering and delays doesn’t help

Give us the figures over the last 10 years to get a better understanding....... Manipulated headlines to maximin exposure... Huh

The threat of Brexit is damaging sales & further endangering production. Where's the Brexit dividend? Is it behind the unicorn?

And the effect of the Japan/ EU trade deal? Probably cost effective to export Nissan, Honda and Toyota directly from Japan factories now

Politicians killed the car industry by forcing the death of petrol and diesel, they should have progressively tightened emissions and made the change more gradual and realistic. Politicians don't listen to the people.

Thank you Boris Johnson and other torries

I don't think the manufacturers have realised cars are more reliable these days and last longer, so why change what ain't broken. Also I quite like my old diesel land rover.

It's down to the austerity, wages have remained stagnant and people are struggling.

Uncertainty over electric cars

As ever, the SMMT claims just aren't credible. Brexit may have an effect on the supply chain but surely sales are due to legislative uncertainty, costs plus diesel bans in cities etc? I know I won't be spending £30k+ on a car that might be worth £5k in a few years anytime soon..

Uncertainty on brexit and a Tory / brexit part / libdem / dup government

A good news story 👏👏👏 I ditched my car and bought a bike years ago.

Well done Remainers, this is the real impact of you blocking the Referendum!

The production of cars hv overtaken the customers available plus the additional stock pile parked up in fields. Simple Overproduction yet manufs r blaming Brexit. Mobile phones hv hit this problem also.

Should that not read WORLD

The Brexit Bonus? Remember folks this is what you voted for!

Electric cars way too expensive doesn't help either

MSM and woke left idiots Let’s go green there is a climate emergency——- there is a decline in car manufacturing It has to be brexit or Tory government fault 🤦‍♂️ cause and effect has no meaning to these wets

Demonize diesel without a viable alternative and the world's car production will fall not just the UK's

It has started...

Of course this is due to Brexit since the rest of the world is at peace and trade is running beautifully with no trade wars anywhere

Good! too many cars on the road anyway

Ohhhh poor car production companies ,should have thought about that all them years when they were ripping people in the UK off.

Try dropping the shitty prices of your cheap vehicles that you charge an arm and a leg for and you might get some buyers ,you charge to much overheads for crap.

It’s mainly caused by this countries fanatical infatuation with now ticking green and environmental boxes, they are driving big industries from this country. Honda taking production of electric car’s to japan because battery production is too dirty for U.K.! Poss JLR too?

Yay, yet-more Brexit 'winning'.

Of course this is nothing to do with Brexit. Is it?

Brexit means Brexit

They have priced themselves out . Who can buy the overpriced cars that depreciation requires u have GAP insurance. Etc

taking back control! Fuvk ya!

Buy American
