Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose's pact to not talk about merger lasted one minute

The Northern Irish star became the face of the PGA tour in its war against the Saudi-owned LIV Golf, only to have the rug pulled out from under him by commissioner Jay Monahan and the PGA Tour he went to bat for. After his round on Thursday, I asked McIlroy if the events of the week have him concerned that perhaps he had put his faith in an altruistic version of the PGA Tour that doesn’t exist, and whether perhaps he should have been looking out for himself a little more.

“I knew I was going to get a million-and-one questions, I thought long and hard on how I’m going to answer them,” Fitzpatrick said. “And that’s not really my job. I spoke to a few close friends of mine and listened to what they had to say, successful businessmen. All I can do is go and play great golf myself. Whether everyone comes back and plays in the field, I’ve still got to beat them in front of me.
