Parliament committee adopts proposed names for SABC Board via SABCNewsOnline

Parliament’s Communications Committee has adopted a list of proposed names to serve on theamid stiff opposition from some political parties. The list will be tabled before the National Assembly on Tuesday for final consideration.

The SABC has eight vacancies on the Board. This follows resignations of some Board members rendering the Board inquorate. On Thursday, the committee adopted to recommend the following candidates; Mary Papaya, Jasmina Patel, Dr Marcia Socikwa, Adv Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi, Bernedette Muthien, Adv. Benjamin Lekalakala, Prof. Saths Cooper and David Maimela.

The ANC says these are firm and credible candidates who would not succumb to political interference, but the opposition parties had their own ideas. The DA’s Phumzile van Damme says that a lot of qualified candidates, particularly women, were left out of the final list. EEF’s Mbuyiseni Ndlozi shares van Damme’s sentiment.
