The troubles in the building industry will dominate a Building Ministers' Forum on Thursday, convened by the Federal Industry Minister Karen Andrews, who shares Josh Frydenberg's view that the sector's crisis is down to the states failing to ensure compliance under the National Construction Code.
Confidence in the building industry is being hit not only by the flammable cladding issue, but by wider building quality questions, after three Sydney buildings were evacuated because of cracks. It appears this has also spooked the insurance industry, which has pushed up costs and squeezed access to insurance for certifiers and surveyors.
