Apple's purchase of NextVR signals that the iPhone-maker is banking on live events like sports and concerts to edge deeper into the XR ecosystem

To fill the live-sports vacuum, traditional leagues and broadcasters are hosting virtual replacements like game simulations. The inaugural broadcast on FS1 drew 903,000 viewers, and 1.34 million viewers on the March 31 broadcast on Fox and FS1 — each respectively setting records for esports viewership on TV, Nielsen.
