The pub chain’s use of the face of a Tory politician to sell cheap booze exposes its true colours, says Ruby Lott-Lavigna, a senior staff writer at Vice UK

Wetherspoon pubs occupy a strange place in British culture. For many, the chain represents a kind of egalitarian ideal – a communal boozing atmosphere unified by £3.99 pints and £1.60 coffees. A place where middle-class, leftwing art students can brush shoulders with elderly alcoholics, united in their love of the budget boozer. The pub chain’s cheap point of entry makes it a unifying place in otherwise divided times: a place of legend , of cheap kormas and pinot grigio.

Has Tim 'dim and not nice' Wetherspoon managed to encourage some staff back from Tesco to reopen.

I was in a Wetherspoon in Ireland which has strict rules for pubs (e.g. food is mandatory, limits on time etc) . Were they enforcing them? Of course not. & worse was the large crowd outside packed together waiting to get in. Offending pubs should be shut down.

Trust a double-barreller to think Wetherspoons is cheap.

Not like the Guardian who takes furlough money off the government whilst having over £1bn in investments, despite other newspapers managing to pay the government the money back. You have stolen the money off taxpayers.

So much for the Gruaniad as the voice of the common man...what a clownish article..

Two pints of badly poured beer and a couple of crusty boomers please...

Y'all have cheap booze? Because Watneys sponsored a dart tournament in Atlantic City once and that was some overpriced horsepiss. Had me wondering why the suicide rate in Jolly Olde one each wasn't higher. Cheers.
