GEORGE TOWN: The RM1mil one-off electricity bill subsidy for the tourism industry announced by the Penang government recently has been approved.

"Those interested can start applying from Monday , said state tourism and creative economy committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin.

Yeoh, in a statement on Saturday , said the state government has responded swiftly to MCO 3.0 by allocating RM1mil for Penang’s tourism industry within 48 hours of the announcement. “The tourism and creative industries’ sustainability are of paramount importance to the Penang state government; I hope this subsidy can somewhat alleviate their financial burden in this critical period,” he added.

The one-off subsidy will be given to hoteliers, travel agencies, tourist attractions and theme parks within the state, and is open for application until June 25.
