LIVE | De Ruyter has 'good reason to believe' Mpumalanga cartels exist

Mente asks about the veracity of allegations that there are cartels. De Ruyter says he notified all relevant people and authorities.

"Having been exposed once, I am reluctant to do that again," De Ruyter says, ostensibly in reference to his coffee being poisoned. Mente says De Ruyter is misleading Parliament, and that Hlengwa must use a"mechanism" afforded to Scopa to get him to answer. De Ruyter says he is aware of his duties and responsibilities in this regard. But does not want compromise people's safety - and use a public forum to ventilate these concerns.

Hlengwa says it is helpful for Parliament, the president and SA to know if its is a"minister" that is involved. De Ruyter says there has been an extraordinary effect by Eskom, him and his management to help law enforcement to get to grips with these issues. COMMENT: Van Minnen's line of questioning is key. It shows De Ruyter made public enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan aware that he suspected politically connected individuals were involved in corruption at Eskom.

He said that there is a narrative in the media that there is a"minister". It was a"senior politician". De Ruyter said informing Gordhan and Mufamadi about which minister it was, was in line with his job. COMMENT: Not telling the committee who the minister was who told him, basically, he needed to allow some people to get away with corruption to prevent attacks on him, is going to be a difficult exercise.

At no time was the discussion about broader elements of poor governance... I don't want this to be characterized by the minister as being there being more for people to eat...
