The Boggabri Coal mine in the state's north-west took surface water without an appropriate licence and collected it in temporary and permanent storage between early 2019 and April 2022. It has also signed an enforceable undertaking, which will require it to fit new water meters, contribute $10,000 it to a community water project and consult with local Indigenous groups.Claims decision falls short
"The mine occupies close to half of the catchment of Nagero Creek which, prior to the mine's operation was providing water to downstream users and the Namoi flood plain," Lock the Gate said.Boggabri farmer Sally Hunter said her family was forced to de-stock and relocate due to the impacts of the drought and she was angry about the company's actions.
