Biden wants to get rid of the law that shields companies like Facebook from liability for what their users post.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden told The New York Times editorial board that tech's legal shield known as Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act should be revoked.

The law also allows for tech companies to engage in "good faith" content moderation to remove violent and harassing content.Steve Marcus | Reuters , is more extreme than that of other lawmakers who have confronted tech executives about the legal protection from Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

The bill became law in the mid-1990s to help still-nascent tech firms avoid being bogged down in legal battles. But as tech companies have amassed more power and billions of dollars, many lawmakers across the political spectrum along with, agree that some reforms of the law and its enforcement are likely warranted.

What people post isn't the problem, it's what platforms like Facebook do with the post/information.

Great ! First things first. But def need to start having accountability for these crooks!

Great more liabilities being stripped

Like facebook is americas real problem...

Dems so out of touch. Tough to find things wrong when things are so good.

Not sure that’s realistic

joebiden getting it wrong again. It's not about what users post, that's f'n free speech man, it's about what happens with user's data - it's about platform-aided propaganda campaigns.

As good as blaming the road for the thief treading on.

Biden may want to revoke 230 “for Zuckerberg and other platforms” but it would kill Twitter first; followed by YouTube comments and any other posting online, anywhere, anonymous or not. Good luck with that! 👍🏼

Let's also hold bar owners responsible for the things that people write on bathroom walls. :/

आवाज.

Thought police

Why is he worried about what somebody else reads?

Okay, I don’t have Facebook

In order to accomplish that, apps like FB, Twitter, YouTube, etc. would need to be classified as Publishers, not Platforms. Although YouTube may be crossing that line, I don’t think the others will even be a close challenge.

They should be held accountable if they're allowing illegal content. There's a distinct line between free speech and the promotion of illegal activity. Especially when it is a matter of life, death or the well-being of a person or people.

It's free speech you old bastard. So the pharmaceutical industry is shielded from lawsuits from actually injuring and killing people while Crazy Joe is over here trying to use the law to kill our free speech, disguised as nice speech advocacy.

LOL WHAT?

Hm, if someone posted a poster that’s racist and promotes violence on my car while I’m at work, am I liable for that poster’s content?

I had to read this twice, maybe even three times. You really want to hold social networking sites like Facebook civilly responsible for what their users post....? What do you think?

The First Amendment must be protected.

BIDEN IS A CROOK!!!! IMO

Yippee ki-yay motherzucker
