Reddit's latest transparency report lays out how the company has been taking steps to clean up its platform for users and advertisers

For the first time, the report expanded beyond third-party requests to include independent actions Reddit took around both general policy violations and the quarantining and removal of subreddits. In total, approximately 4.7% of all content created on Reddit in 2019 was removed by either admins or volunteer subreddit moderators .

For perspective, the report reflects a more than 300% increase in the absolute number of content removals over the prior year, likely a combination of both more aggressive enforcement and general user and content growth. In the past year, Reddit has been taking significant steps to clean up its platform for both users and advertisers. In 2018, Reddit hired former Time Inc COO In service of that goal, one of Wong's top priorities is mitigating brand safety risks: of client-side marketers cited brand safety concerns as the reason they avoid advertising with Reddit, per a Digiday survey of 94 client-side marketers conducted last April.
