Because the measure is not a ban, producers say they will not be able to claim insurance and shows will go bankrupt.

Less than an hour before performances were due to start, doors were shut.

Staff - some wearing gloves - handed out notices and told audiences they would be closed for the foreseeable future. There was shock and disbelief among many people that this was happening and it seemed to be a turning point that normal life was going to change. After she was turned away, one woman said:"I'm shocked, unbelievable, so scary."

Another said:"It's a bit annoying from a personal perspective because we've been planning this for a very long time but I do totally understand."One theatregoer said:"I think this decision should have been made maybe three or four days back - so everyone had a very clear understanding - but it's like everyone is in a limbo now.

They went on to say:"Closing venues is not a decision that is taken lightly, and we know that this will have a severe impact on many of the 290,000 individuals working in our industry."

Yeah at this point I would say Covid19 is a crippling blow to any industry

The industry needs to shut up and respect the government is dealing with this crisis now go home and take a rest

The new current advice is crippling to everyone..self employed especially..who pays your bills if u can't work..small businesses who rely on customers but shut has hit the fan and you are talking about life and death..we must protect our vulnerable

damned if you do, damned if you don’t !! unbelievable SLY News !!

Yeah but we’d rather live so.... sorry

Broadway closed a week ago. What an attitude and disregard for personal safety! It’s a massive problem and all businesses will have to face it and the authorities must see that the economy survives. Not much point being creative if you end up dead!

They may have to think about more constructive career paths.

If schools are shut who looks after the kids of parents in the hospital Boris Luxembourg have closed all schools except for all medical staff famillies

‘PM’s advice’, was given after he was advised by some of the most talented scientists on the planet.

Supermarkets are a breeding ground for cornavirus I mean self isolation? Boris don't surprise me anymore

What your solution?

Cripplingly blow?! What planet are you guys on? Nothing matters now apart from saving lives

What about us? Airports can’t run without us, means we’re in contact with others... Sameness with Lecturers, Teachers etc.. (students & Pupils) contacts. Except who?

May save life though 🤔 Are you not going to mention that bit? Ok, cool.

The financial implications of this are going to be colossal

What about the NHS you inconsiderate buffoons!!

If the UK bows to UN pressure we'll be locking down for 18 months. Millions in this country will be utterly destroyed to save thousands from a natural death. There is some serious groupthink going on. This reaction is out of proportion and everyone is being swept along.

same

This man is out of his depth as prime minister.

Awww diddums

You shouldn’t have to be told that , It should be common sense .

JusThinking, it must be sht business if going towards bankruptcy & crisis after few weeks without customers. Means before all Covid19 was working based on loans/debts. Business must use time to renovation, cleanings, improvements etc and prepare for customer rush after pandemic.

And the point is... SelfIsolation coronavirus

BorisResign you’re advising not to go to pubs, cinemas, theatres, clubs, gyms, etc but schools remain open? Govt is committing deliberate criminal negligence that can cause unlawful deaths! coronavirus schoolclosure COVID19

Our nearest and dearest are at risk of dying but thanks BorisJohnson we will avoid the theatre? Seriously is that the best u have

It’s a crippling blow to the entire planet

Being dead is more crippling of course.

Wait until you see what it does to people.

These industries all receive government lottery money . what about the normal people bus drivers construction workers hair dressers etc etc come on skynews you are better than this start looking after the PEOPLE who pay your wages

Ccp has crippled it. People are selling their granny’s for £ by not adhering to lockdowns. Point the finger in the right direction if you want to blame someone.

Instead of banning PM is advising

Who cares
