At least three states — Idaho, Ohio and North Dakota — have told nonessential businesses that they may be OK to reopen on May 1.

Idaho Gov. Brad Little speaks with reporters at the Statehouse in Boise last month. In a statement released Wednesday, Little told residents that some businesses — those at which safe social distancing can be practiced — may have an opportunity to reopen after April 30.Idaho Gov. At a news conference Thursday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine also noted that his state is looking at the possibility of reopening May 1 — albeit slowly, and in phases. Little said that some nonessential businesses — those, such as bars and hair salons,"where people simply cannot safely social distance" — should expect to remain closed. But others that are capable of complying with the state's conditions and do so, his office said,"should prepare to reopen after April 30."

Meanwhile, no such stay-at-home order has been issued in North Dakota, which recently saw its highest single-day spike in new confirmed cases — but also has reported even lower numbers than Idaho, with more than 360 confimed cases and a death toll of at least nine.

Well, someone has to go first. Hopefully we'll learn from what does and doesn't work.

They'll suffer in the long term, cause they'll have to start all over when the rest of us are coming out the other side😔

Non-essential. Many people who need to feed their families view much of government as being entirely non-essential. Also non-essential: the $75,000,000 that NPR got in the bailout.

“May be ok” this is a misleading headline

A plan should be done with other midwest states. Nebraska? Iowa? Are you planning to join the other midwest states to plan a phased approach that includes masks and distancing? GovRicketts ?

🙄

I don’t know about Ohio, but a May 1 date for states like Idaho, the Dakotas, Wyoming, etc is optimistic but not out of the question

Dear Idaho: kindly stay out of Washington State, ok? Be a Good Neighbor and Stay Over There!!

Clearly the man in the photo is tired of cutting his own hair.

Yay! I’m moving.

Story says all three states are conditioning openings on widespread robust testing. Same criteria as other states are saying. Good luck getting that in 2 weeks.

I'm somewhat conflicted about this, specifically N.D. Last summer I drove across the state, from Fargo to Montana State line. There is not much there, & fewer people. If you wanted a test area to try and loosen up the lock down, this might be a good candidate. Easy to reverse.

Ok, so constant waves of COVID-19 death is going to be the norm for a few years. Some business people will get to make money. And the rest of us will learn to accept friends and loved ones dying by the tens of thousands because President Ignoranus is in denial.

They can be our guinea pigs.

Apparently, “nonessential states” as far as the lives of their residents are concerned. They are willing to trade deaths for Olive Garden bead sticks. There are still Not enough tests Not enough ventilators Not enough PPe’s Shame on us, but especially...Trump.

Even if these states have the most testing, lowest numbers of infected and deaths, I worry about people coming into the state exposing them. ‘... may be OK...’ is not reassuring.

Too bad the virus does not infect only Republicans and their governors because they will deserve it.

Ohio's governor had been relatively early and aggressive in Ohio's COVID responses. I guess once a republican, always a republican.

CAgovernor can we please restrict state to state boarder access?! I don't want our frontline workers getting sick from red state idiots.

Anyone who breaks the distancing requirements, contracts the virus and dies, insurance should consider it a suicide.........

Let them learn

Hahaha, Ohio has tested like 60,000 people. Total.

The second wave will be tremendous. The biggest wave ever. It will be a beautiful wave. No one will ever have seen such a wave.

Let's write down the names of the people who die and put them in a list under Trump's picture.

It’s ok...2 of the 3 are expendable...

What a coincidence! States re-opening are led by .GOP governors. A Party that has surrendered any anchor to data, science & facts to embrace the incantations of .realDonaldTrump it’s shaman & seller-of-snake-oil-in-Chief. Fine if they want to get sick but they’ll be contagious.

New dem way to win the Senate and White House! Social distancing and staying safe. Let the knuckleheaded Repubs 'open the economy', get sick and reduce their numbers. We'll take their help.

Life is risky. Cowards need not apply.

I am from Ohio, live in Northern Kentucky, but work in Cincinnati (essential worker) and this is insane. So much for all of our efforts to “flatten the curve” 😐

Well, byebye Idaho, Ohio and North Dakota.

God help them.

Good God
