Demand for vehicles has slowed to a crawl due to stay-at-home orders during the pandemic, with car sales down 75 per cent in April, according to the latest figures from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants Inc.

The auto industry is grappling with closed dealerships and a manufacturing halt, although automakers including Honda Canada are looking to slowly resume production next week. This week on Down to Business, Honda Canada new chief executive Jean Marc Leclerc discusses the COVID-19 pandemic’s short- and long-term impacts on the auto sector and its global supply chains, and how long he expects it will take for the industry to recover.
