The market would then be re-opened on May 20, said Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin in a statement on Friday .
He said the cleaning activities were part of the"mega gotong-royong”, and would be jointly carried out by the Ipoh City Council and the Kinta Public Health Division. The objective was to curb the spread of dengue and chikungunya around the market area, the mayor said. “The council hopes the gotong-royong activity will provide confidence to the people on the cleanliness of the market and, at the same time, to ensure the safety and health of market goers," he added.Article type: free
