6 podcast collectives and production companies elevating the voices of people of color — and how to apply to each to gain exposure, funding, and support (byBritt_S_O)

Rita Bautista

"What they didn't do well is figure out how to help them elevate their podcasts so that they can also be charting, and I think that that's a big problem," she said. "It's up to us to ensure that we are empowering people to not just start their podcast and elevate their podcast quality, but also how to connect them to sponsors so that they can in turn use that money to continue turning and going back into their podcast.

The events that Blk Pod Collective hosts are networking gatherings, special fireside chats, and panels with industry leaders and educational workshops. The collective also offers consulting services that help podcasters with sound quality, uniqueness, and content structure and production services that help with sound engineering and editing, as well as workshops for members to learn how to market their podcasts and create sponsorship decks and media kits.

"[My audience was] tired of hearing from white, older, middle-aged men who were telling them that the answer to all their problems was to get up earlier in the morning and drink green juice. You obviously don't understand the plight of being a woman of color, especially from a business perspective," she said.
