Lowe's CEO says racism is 'mentally exhausting' for Black people, corporate America needs to 'stop talking and start doing' when it comes to promoting equality

The fact racial injustice is still an issue in the United States is "mentally exhausting" for Black people, said Lowe's CEO Marvin Ellison.

"I'm very appreciative that there's all this dialogue happening out there, but I didn't have to see the horrific murder of George Lloyd to understand that there was racial injustice in America," Ellison said. "I live it every day."The video of George Floyd's May 25 killing at the hands of Minneapolis police officers sparked weeks ofand a reckoning over racism in the United States.

The Lowe's CEO expressed gratitude toward his parents for conveying "fundamental lessons that have stayed with me my entire life."Ellison said that his parents taught him to place his faith in God, work hard, and pursue a college education in order to "limit the ability for people to hold me back." "I didn't need social unrest as a CEO to understand that was an issue," he said. "I didn't do a press conference. I didn't hire consultants. We just decided to fix the issue, because it's an obvious issue."
